The 12 Modern Lamps of Christmas 2011- Day 1
It’s hard to believe that, in less than a month, Christmas will be here. There’s so much to get done and so little time to do it in: trim the tree, bake cookies and, of course, all that shopping. If you’re having trouble finding just the right gift for someone this holiday season–or would like to give yourself something nice for a little extra burst of holiday spirit–I’m here to help you out. This Christmas, I think it’s a great idea to consider the gift of light and modern design.
In case you missed last year’s list (or just to refresh your memory), here are the rules. A lamp is eligible to be chosen as one of the 12 Modern Lamps of Christmas as long as it’s small (wrappable), fun and under $200. The really cool thing is that, since I did the modern lamp Christmas list in 2010, I was able to find a brand-new, fresh batch of 12 more lamps that are just as worthy of giving this year. So each day over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be able to highlight a really cool, modern lamp that is truly gift-worthy.
So, without further ado, the 1st Modern Lamp of Christmas is… (drumroll please)
I love this little guy for several reasons. First, look how cute! There’s something about the angle of the head that makes the lamp look like it’s paying very close attention to whatever it’s illuminating. Second, it’s made out of paper pulp that’s been spread over a mold, dried and formed around an aluminum and cast iron frame. This paper gives the lamp a really cool bumpy texture and is actually very durable. Third, the paper pulp form makes Trash Me completely recyclable. Not that you’d ever want to get rid of it. I mean, c’mon, look how cute!
The Trash Me Table Lamp was designed by Victor Vetterlein for the Copenhagen design company, &Tradition. And it’s actually bigger than it looks, nearly two feet tall. So it’ll be a nice, big surprise for the environmentally-minded lighting lover in your life.
